Grubstones Ridge, Rombalds Moor
sketchfab
Currently on display at Cliff Castle Museum in Keighley, West Yorkshire. It was found in the 19thC in the Grubstones Ridge area of Burley Moor, towards the eastern end of Rombalds Moor. Sadly, its exact find location on Grubstone Ridge isn’t known. The carving is in near pristine condition with tooling marks present within the motifs. This level of preservation suggests the stone has spent a large proportion of its life sheltered from the impacts of weathering, and has either been interred in another monument or face down / buried. Dimensions are 0.8m x 0.62m x 0.25m. It has appeared in various publications, and Ilkley Archaeology Group included it in both the1986 and 2003 gazetteers. The stone was recorded by the CSI:Rombalds Moor Project in 2012, and added to the England’s Rock Art database as ‘Grubstones Ridge’ https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/details.jsf?eraId=2357 Model created from just 5 random photographs captured from outside the glass display cabinet on 20 March 2012.
