Grubstones Ridge, Rombalds Moor
sketchfab
Currently showcased at Cliff Castle Museum in Keighley, West Yorkshire. Discovered during the 19th century in the Grubstones Ridge area of Burley Moor, near the eastern end of Rombalds Moor. Unfortunately, its exact discovery site on Grubstones Ridge remains unknown. The carving is remarkably well-preserved with tooling marks visible within the designs. This level of preservation indicates that the stone has spent a significant portion of its life protected from weathering impacts and was either buried in another monument or laid face down. Measuring 0.8m x 0.62m x 0.25m, this relic is a notable find. Featured in various publications, the Ilkley Archaeology Group included it in both their 1986 and 2003 gazetteers. The stone was documented by the CSI:Rombalds Moor Project in 2012 and added to England's Rock Art database as 'Grubstones Ridge' (https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/details.jsf?eraId=2357). A digital model created from just five random photographs taken outside the glass display case on March 20, 2012.
