Polyphemus Group, seated majestically on a rocky outcropping, holds court as a Greek figure kneels at his feet, wine cup extended in a gesture of offering. The Cyclope's rugged features are set in a stern expression, while his head is tilted slightly to the right. On his right thigh rests a bony skeleton, its right foot suspended above the legs of the diminutive Greek character, who lies humbly at Polyphemus' feet. This captivating work may have been part of a larger composite group, perhaps adorning a mythical nymph's abode. The Greek head, though ancient in style, seems somewhat incongruous; crowned with pampini, it bears a striking resemblance to the mask worn by a bacchanal reveler.
