Ground Pod Classic

The Ground Pod Classic makes it easy to capture images while lying prone. A ball head can be used to provide stability. This camera pod was developed for my brother to be able to take nature photos supporting a large lens close to the ground, while laying prone.

It is made using “off the shelf” components, combined with a custom 3D printed structure to keep the camera steady. Flying discs are far more durable than any 3D printed part. Combining this with a 3D printed mount for a ball head, creates a durable structure.

Photography by Ash Ponders.

Hardware:

1/4” long 3/8”-16 UNC bolt (This is a photography standard)

A flying discs with an inner diameter of about 164mm, alternatively, this could be printed

Super glue (optional)

Files to print:

If using a pre-existing flying disc:

1x Ground Pod Classic Hub

6x Ground Pod Classic Centering Arm

If using the all in one:

1x Ground Pod Classic All-In-One

Printing:

Layer height: 0.28mm, anything lower than 0.2 is not suggested.

No supports

Prior to Assembly:

Clean out inbuilt supports in the center hole

(If using a pre-existing flying disc):

2.
