Thick prints are possible with the GrooveMount E3D V5 Hotend - I've tried it myself. With settings like 3 perimeters and 40% infill, it comes out solid as a rock. However, don't neglect to have a fan blowing on that cooling block or the hotend could get damaged and you'll need to print a replacement. It's happened to me before - I recommend keeping at least one spare on hand. By the way, I've been using a Wade-style carriage setup for my printer, with excellent results so far.
