Groot is a towering Flora colossus who teams up with Rocket Raccoon on countless adventures throughout the galaxy. The pair has earned a reputation for collecting lucrative bounties until they stumbled upon Star-Lord and Gamora just before their capture in the Kyln, where Drax the Destroyer also joined them. There, they formed an unlikely alliance to break free and cash in on the Orb's enormous value. However, when it was revealed that the Orb held one of the Infinity Stones being sought after by Ronan the Accuser, Groot convinced his friends to take a risk and thwart Ronan's evil plans. During the Battle of Xandar, Groot gave his life to protect his new allies. Miraculously, part of his destroyed body was successfully planted by Rocket to give birth to a new Groot as they joined forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
