Grommet Factory
thingiverse
Parametric design (using CadQuery) for a tube going through a wall, optionally with a tube socket incl. sealing ring to connect another segment of tube. The STL files show just some variants as examples, but you can use this design to generate various classes of items with any dimension you need: grommet or pass-through for a tube, hose or cable; cable grommet with integrated sealing ring; input tube for a tank; output tube for food containers (muesli, coffee, grains etc.); simple funnel integrated into a top wall element; hose / tube diameter adapter (with any combination of plug and socket ends); hose / tube gender changer adapter; EN1451 wastewater tube section; EN1451 wastewater tube adapter to any diameter. **Available parameters:** – tube: shell thickness, length before wall, tube length after wall, angle – tube diameter transition section: position and length – tube input: inner diameter and end cut angle – tube output: inner diameter and end cut angle – seal cavity: position, depth, inner diameter – wall insert element: thickness, groove width, groove depth, groove positions **Instructions to create your own variant:** (1) Install CadQuery 2.0 or later and cq-editor: https://cadquery.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ (2) Download the design source from here (files tube_socket.py, wall_insert.py, utilities.py): https://github.com/tanius/smallopticalsorter/tree/master/mechanics (3) Open tube_socket.py in cq-editor. (4) Customize the parameters (at the bottom), preview, export to STEP / STL for 3D printing. At this time (2021-01), CadQuery or its CAD kernel have a few issues triggered by this design. It may hang for some parameter combinations with non-zero angles, esp. when a cutting plane goes right through a circular edge. It helps to adapt angles and measures gradually to keep a working configuration until arriving at a part as close as possible to what you want.
