Grip that zip!-Zipping made easy for arthritis sufferers
pinshape
I created this small device to assist my grandmother who was having trouble with her zippers. Her arthritis causes her hands to shake a lot, making it hard for her to slot the zippers together. I designed this tool which lets her grab both sides of the zipper and guides it into place using a notch, so she doesn't have to aim carefully. The design allows her to put the zipper in and then use the same device to zip up her coat with a smooth motion. I'm asking that if you want to use my design, please post a photo of your printed version because the living hinge requires high-quality printing. In September, I plan to print this at school on their basic printer so I can give it to my grandmother and then hopefully improve it to make it cheaper and easier to print for the thousands of arthritis sufferers worldwide. My goal is to develop it so it can be printed on low-cost, low-accuracy printers. This device can bring someone a lot of happiness by giving them self-confidence and independence. I have a video of it in use if you're interested - just ask and I'll send it to you via email. If you're unsure about the design, the video will clarify things for you. Thank You for taking the time to look at my design!
