Grip Handle for a 5.25 Inch Desktop's Drive Bay
thingiverse
This is a grip to insert into a desktop computer's 5.25 inch drive bay. Rationale With optical drives becoming increasingly obsolete, the need for 5.25 Inch bays has significantly decreased. Leaving these openings empty can be inconvenient during transportation. However, they also create an entry point for dust that can contaminate the computer case. Furthermore, sharp edges within the case pose a threat to the user's safety while carrying the device. This grip serves as a safe and protective closure for unused 5.25 inch bays. Customisation Parameters for material strength and grip depth can be adjusted in the scad file. The Customizer feature has been enabled, but unfortunately, it is not functioning correctly at this time. Any assistance with resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated. Printing A step around the front of the design makes it ideal to print the grip from the front towards the rear. This orientation ensures a stable and secure hold during printing. Installation The most ergonomic approach to installing the grip is to place it in the top-most drive bay. This configuration enables the carrying hand to wrap around the edge of the case, while the other hand can grasp the rear of the case beneath the power supply unit or the opposing edge of the case. Installing the grip at the top also facilitates lining up the case for added stability. Status Following publication, this file underwent revisions. Notably, the tap holes were originally specified incorrectly. It is essential to verify that you are working with the latest version. GitHub This design is also available on GitHub.
