The Griffinbot is a custom-built H-bot 3D printer for my High school senior project, which has the potential to print at speeds over 100mm/s due to its design. As it's currently undergoing testing, results have been promising so far. Much of my experience came from working on and maintaining a Makerbot Thing-o-Matic in my robotics class. The Griffinbot's frame uses laser-cut 1/4" MDF wood for its unique design and easier fabrication with access to a laser cutter at school. Parts of the X & Y Axes were inspired by other H-bot printers on Thingiverse, modified to fit specifications. More detailed photos and a video will be uploaded soon. However, there are some flaws in the design that I would change if given a chance for revision. The frame is too small, leaving unused space on the heated bed. Additionally, the H-Bot belt system is not as efficient as the CoreXY system, with some gantry twisting impacting print quality. Despite these issues, all parts and materials used are listed, with an overall cost of about $800 excluding design and construction hours. Components include 20mm Aluminum Extrusion, MDF, a glass plate, 3D printer filament, LM10UU & LM8UU Bearings, GT2 Belt & pulleys, ACME rod, steel rods, a 12V power supply, NEMA17 Stepper motors, E3D V5 Hotend, Azteeg X3 Controller and hot bed, and miscellaneous tools. I do not recommend building an exact replica of the Griffinbot due to these design flaws.
