Griffin Pro Spring extruder
thingiverse
An advanced extruder designed for all Griffins, though not an effortless component to create. This enables the use of a standard Hobb, eliminating the need for the Griffin brass hobb. The new extruder boasts enhanced grip and can even handle flexible filaments when printed at slow speeds. Griffin Pro https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3867364 Constructing this requires a 1/8 NPT thread tap to tap the large hole on the idler, as the threads are already in place but rarely print well. An alternative method is to disassemble your bowden fitting and remove the o-ring, then use the base of it to create threads by heating it with a lighter while holding it with pliers, exercising caution not to get burned. Additionally, ensure all holes are clean using a drill bit or ream. The hole for the idler bearing bolt could benefit from a tap but can be skipped either by drilling it out or heating a bolt and threading it in. No detailed instructions are provided, but assembly is straightforward as there are only three parts involved. Secure the main component to a geared stepper using two M3x20mm bolts, with the small tongue facing away from the motor, creating an overhang (similar to its configuration on Thingiverse). Insert an M5 nut into the hex hole in the idler and then insert the "insert" into the hole containing the nut, with the flat face first. From the other side, thread in an M5x15 bolt so it just touches the insert. Insert the spring into the hex hole and index it to the peg on the insert. Slide the idler under the ledge/overhang and insert a third M3x20mm bolt, tightening it lightly, allowing the assembly to rock. Verify that the spring indexes the main body properly. Insert the original idler bearing and bolt into the slot and hole. Mount the entire assembly to your Griffin using two M5x15mm bolts. Parts required for this upgrade if upgrading a Griffin Pro: 3x M5x15 1x Ultimaker printer bed bed spring (available on Amazon) 1 WINSINN 3D Printer Drive Gear 40 Tooth 8mm Bore Stainless Steel extruder wheel (check Amazon) If not replacing a Griffin Pro extruder and wanting to use this, additional parts are required: 1x M5x15 1x 625zz bearing 3 M3x20mm bolts 1x Hydraulic fitting, presumably McMaster-Carr #5148K121 This design has been tested but marked as work in progress due to a lack of documentation and support.
