The powerful Roman goddess of fate and revenge, Nemesis, embodied divine retribution for those guilty of pride. As a female figure, she was first depicted beside the wheel of fate and a fearsome griffin - a horned, winged creature with a sharp beak and the majestic body of a lion. Over time, however, her human-like qualities faded, and these two iconic images came to symbolize Nemesis herself. During the Roman era, Nemesis gained immense popularity, especially among soldiers who brought her cult to the land. The base of this stunning sculpture bears a Greek inscription that proudly proclaims: "Year 522, I, Mercurios, son of Alexander, dedicate this magnificent statue during my priesthood."
