Grey Cup Trophy - Chalice and 3rd Base
thingiverse
Recently, the CFL staged its 107th Grey Cup game in 2019, awarding the winner with the prestigious Grey Cup trophy. This league championship game showcases the very best of Canadian football, with the Grey Cup trophy serving as the ultimate symbol of excellence. The model I've created represents the silver Grey Cup chalice attached to its base, which has been in use since 1987-2018. While I plan to add representations of the screw heads that hold the engraving plates to the base, this detail may not be noticeable due to the scale at which it will be printed. I've aimed to model the Grey Cup trophy at 1:1 scale, but ran into issues finding information about its height. As a result, my model may be slightly smaller than the actual trophy. However, it's designed to match the scale of my other Grey Cup model. Printing at 20% of the STL scale is possible on a Prusa Mk2.5. I'm excited to share this project with fellow enthusiasts and football fans. The original chalice of the Grey Cup trophy was commissioned in 1909 by Earl Grey, who was then Governor General of Canada. This iconic trophy has been the Canadian Dominion Football Championship trophy awarded to the national champions of Canadian football since its inception. First presented in 1909, the names of the champions are engraved on the base each time it's awarded. Unlike the Vince Lombardi trophy, a new copy is not created for each year's Super Bowl; instead, the same physical Grey Cup trophy is awarded annually and returned by the reigning championship team to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. I couldn't find a CAD model of the Grey Cup online, so I decided to fill this niche with my own creation.
