Grey Cup Trophy - Chalice and 1st Base
thingiverse
Recently, the CFL hosted its 107th Grey Cup game in 2019, with the championship title going to the winner of that prestigious event. The Grey Cup trophy is awarded annually to the champion of Canada's top football league. This model accurately depicts the silver chalice attached to its base, a design that has remained unchanged over time. However, I've chosen not to include the engraved shields honoring past winning teams, which may be added in the future. This base was used from 1909 until 1951. I attempted to create this model at an exact scale of one-to-one, but ran into difficulties finding reliable information about the trophy's height. Consequently, my replica might be slightly smaller than the actual Grey Cup, although it matches the dimensions of my other model perfectly. Fortunately, printing this design at 20% of its original size is feasible using a Prusa Mk2.5. **The History of the Grey Cup** The original chalice for the Grey Cup trophy was commissioned in 1909 by Earl Grey, who held the position of Governor General of Canada at that time. The trophy has since become a symbol of Canadian football supremacy, awarded annually to the national champions. First presented in 1909, the names of each champion team are engraved on the base of the trophy every year. Unlike the Vince Lombardi Trophy, which is replaced each year with a new copy for the Super Bowl, the same physical Grey Cup remains in circulation and returns to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame after each championship. I couldn't find any CAD models of the Grey Cup online, prompting me to create this design to fill that gap.
