The ancient ruins of Loropéni in Burkina Faso, dating back to the 11th century, have recently been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Their original purpose remains unclear. The region has seen numerous gold mines exploited over the last thousand years. Located on a major trade route, it is likely that Loropéni played a significant role in the gold trade. The Lobi-Or-Fort project, led by R. Guillon and L. Samporé, aims to provide answers through a multidisciplinary approach combining archaeology, geophysics, anthropology, geochemistry, and 3D modeling.
