A bronze Griffin stands proudly at the Salztor Bridge in Vienna's 1st district, its coat of arms a testament to the city's rich history. One of four Griffins that once stood at the Stephanie Bridge, which was tragically destroyed in 1945, this resilient creature has been re-enthroned on a stone pedestal since 1983. The inscription on its base reads: "This Griffin was re-erected in 1983 in memory of the Stephanie Bridge (1886-1920) and the first Salztor Bridge until 1945, a gift to the City of Vienna." The Griffin itself is a majestic mythical creature, boasting a lion-like body and the sharp head of a bird of prey. Its distinctive features include its long beak, pointed ears, and powerful wings that seem to spread wide in flight.
