Green Planter with LED light and water tank
thingiverse
The design is a massive departure from the potplanter of Ronniebravo10, which I wanted to supersize. Check it out on Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3369457. This isn't a remix; it's an entirely new creation with six distinct parts that are connected using tiny lips and grooves. However, these parts must be glued together. I've designed the tolerances with PLA material in mind to ensure a smooth fit. There are two watering holes between the plant pots, which means you'll need to drill holes into the bottom of the pots after printing to let water infuse the soil. The design features a double-wide groove inside each arm for two parallel LED strips, providing ample space for lighting. Inside, there are two walls that segregate the water from the electronics. You can power your LEDs by inserting the cable into the "right" body part and drilling holes to connect it to the strip wherever you want. Printing and building this design is challenging due to its size, requiring supports and sanding. The "body" and "end" parts need supports on the build plate, while the "arm" parts require supports everywhere. To avoid warping and shrinking during printing, try to find optimal print orientations and support settings. Connecting the big parts can be tricky; I needed some sanding and removal of supports in the arms for mine. Cosmetic sanding is also necessary for the outside of the arm parts. The strain relief for the power cable is optional, printed from flex material. To make it watertight, use thick glue like UHU Por (or similar strong clear glue) with PLA to seal any leaks.
