Green Lantern Ring
thingiverse
Do you happen to be in possession of a large sheet of translucent green acrylic that shares your enthusiasm for Green Lantern? I found myself in that exact situation, so I decided to create a laser-cuttable Green Lantern Ring using the material. I ended up preferring the 3D printed ring because the translucent green acrylic sometimes appeared yellowish in certain lighting conditions, making it almost indistinguishable from Sinestro's ring. In contrast, the green 3D printer filament produced a more impressive result. The four SCAD files included are likely to be of little use, as most laser cutters can handle millimeter measurements without issue. However, I have included them for the sake of completeness. To prepare the design for laser cutting, simply download the 2D Green Lantern Ring file and import it into OpenSCAD. Feel free to adjust the ring size and thickness to your liking before exporting the design as a DXF file. If you're unable to open SCAD files, use Customizer to modify the settings and download the STL files instead. You can then convert the parts to a drawing using a different 3D modeling program and export them as a DXF. This model is designed for laser cutting, but it can also be easily printed using a 3D printer. To do so, use either the SCAD file of the Green Lantern Ring or Customizer to select your preferred ring size and settings. I highly recommend utilizing a green material to create this design, as it will yield the most authentic results. However, if you're unable to source a green material, feel free to experiment with other colors and paint to achieve a similar effect. Print Settings: Printer Brand: Ultimaker Printer: Ultimaker 2 Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Yes Resolution: ? Infill: ? Notes: I actually used the Zortrax M200 for this project, but it's not an option in the print settings menu. A small amount of support material will help maintain the ring's circular shape, even at the top. Some minor sanding may be required afterwards. How I Designed This: I began by creating a ring design that fit my own measurements using SolidWorks. By incorporating variables to control every measurement, I aimed to simplify the process of creating additional sizes for others. However, as I continued working on the project, I realized that making multiple sizes would require significant edits to the original dimensions. At this point, I had no prior experience with OpenSCAD, but I had it installed on my system. After consulting a tutorial, I was impressed by the software's capabilities and its ability to combine programming and 3D modeling. Looking back, creating the SCAD file likely took longer than necessary, but learning OpenSCAD was an enjoyable experience that will undoubtedly simplify future projects.
With this file you will be able to print Green Lantern Ring with your 3D printer. Click on the button and save the file on your computer to work, edit or customize your design. You can also find more 3D designs for printers on Green Lantern Ring.
