Green Gates 05 (Sept 2012)
sketchfab
Prehistoric carving discovered in the Green Gates area of Rombalds Moor, West Yorkshire. This wedge-shaped rock, known as the 'Pitchfork Stone', is situated just a few meters south of 'Green Crag 06' and was documented by Boughey & Vickerman in their 2003 publication, 'Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding', where it was described as: Small, smooth grit rock with a pitchfork-like groove featuring one cup and a faint horseshoe. The CSI: Rombalds Moor project referenced the stone 'Green Gates 05' on ERA in 2013. Visible tooling marks suggest that the marks were created by a tool with a thin, narrow end, possibly resembling a chisel. Given the level of preservation, could it be fairly modern? ERA information can be found at https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/details.jsf?eraId=2341 and Historic England scheduling details are available at https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1012952. This model was created from 19 images captured by Richard Stroud, a member of the CSI team, during a small trial of SfM technologies in September 2012.
