The ascent of vase painting led to an escalating ornamentation. Concurrent with late Dark Age and early Archaic Greece's geometric art in Greek pottery, the Orientalizing era gained momentum. Pottery produced during Archaic and Classical Greece initially featured black-figure techniques, but red-figure pottery and white ground methods soon emerged as prominent styles. West Slope Ware became a hallmark of the subsequent Hellenistic period, which witnessed vase painting's gradual decline.
