The Artemision Bronze, also known as the God from the Sea, is an ancient Greek masterpiece recovered from the depths of the sea off Cape Artemision in northern Euboea, Greece. Most scholars agree that the bronze statue represents Zeus, the powerful thunder-god and king of gods, although some suggest it might depict Poseidon instead. Measuring slightly over lifesize at 209 cm, the statue would have held either a majestic thunderbolt if it were Zeus or a mighty trident if it represented Poseidon. Initially, the empty eye-sockets were expertly crafted with bone, while the eyebrows, lips, and nipples were adorned with intricate details made from silver, copper, respectively. Unfortunately, the identity of the skilled sculptor remains unknown to this day. The statue remains one of the most prized possessions in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens' extensive collections.
