Greek Slave

Greek Slave

myminifactory

The plaster cast embodies the essence of Powers' "original" Greek Slave sculpture. It was created in the artist's studio, directly from his clay model, and bears the date "March 12, 1843," marking the completion of his masterpiece in clay. Powers meticulously crafted the body but opted for efficiency when it came to the locket, cross, and drapery, referencing real-life examples instead of modeling them himself. Similarly, he didn't waste time on the chains, a crucial element of the sculpture's narrative, instead attaching actual metal chains that scratched against the plaster figure's right thigh.
