Anacreon / Anakreon was a Greek lyric poet known for his captivating drinking songs and hymns. The ancient Greeks honored him by adding his name to their list of nine revered lyric poets. With a mastery of the ancient Ionic dialect, Anacreon crafted all his poetry, which was often performed to the accompaniment of music, typically played on the lyre.
