It stands out due to its massive size, with mature females reaching lengths of up to 6.1 meters (20 feet) and weighing between 1,905-2,268 kilograms (4,200-5,000 pounds). However, most great whites are smaller; males measure 3.4 to 4.0 meters (11-13 feet), while females average 4.6 to 4.9 meters (15-16 feet) in length. According to a study published in 2014, the lifespan of great white sharks is estimated to be as long as 70 years or more, significantly longer than previously thought, making them one of the longest-lived cartilaginous fish currently known. The same study found that male great whites take 26 years to reach maturity, while females require 33 years to become ready to produce offspring.
