The Lighthouse of Alexandria, widely known as the Pharos of Alexandria, stood tall between 280 and 247 BC on the island of Pharos at Alexandria, Egypt. Its main function was to direct sailors safely into the harbor during nighttime hours. With a height estimated to range from approximately 393 to 450 feet (120 to 140 meters), it held the distinction of being one of the tallest human-made structures on Earth for many centuries. The Lighthouse of Alexandria was indeed one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
