Gravity
thingiverse
Gravity is a whimsical mechanical scale for cooking, inspired by ancient scales, it rests on a principle of cantilever and equilibrium. Its use is incredibly straightforward - simply deposit an ingredient into its receptacle, then slide the counterweight horizontally until it reaches the balance point indicated by a level with a bubble. The weight in grams opposite the counterweight corresponds to the mass of the ingredients poured into the receptacle. It's a whimsical object with an assumed aesthetic, designed to be a modern take on a long-forgotten design. Gravity can also serve as an educational tool for kids learning to cook, teaching them about measurement and balance. Gravity is made up of mainly 3D-printed parts and two wooden components (5mm thick) cut by laser or scroll saw - I'd be happy to share the 2D file with you if you're interested.
