Gravitational Waves Earrings - LIGO Livingstone
sketchfab
Celebrating the groundbreaking detection of gravitational waves, confirmed by Einstein's predictions over a century ago, we crafted a pair of earrings inspired by the data unveiled by LIGO's twin observatories. To capture the elusive waves hurtling through space at light speed, scientists strategically positioned the two observatories miles apart at Hanford in Washington state and Livingston in Louisiana, USA. Emulating this setup, our dual earrings are designed around the distinct data sets from each observatory, one on either side of the head, mirroring the vast distance between the facilities. This specific model showcases the design based on Livingston's data. Both models were created using actual numerical data from LIGO and rendered into 3D shape via a meticulous process involving a spreadsheet program to generate curves, which were then refined in a vector-based graphical software before being exported to SketchUp Make 2016 for final development. This innovative design earned a coveted third-place spot in the 2016 i.materialise/SketchUp Jewelry Contest.
