Gravestone Relief

This relief features two nuns gripping candles each, honoring the deceased. The Cimitero Monumentale is one of Milan's largest cemeteries, complemented by the Cimitero Maggiore in Italy. Its notable artistic tombs and monuments abound. Designed by Carlo Maciachini (1818-1899), it was intended to consolidate numerous small cemeteries into a single location. Officially established in 1866, it has since been filled with an assortment of contemporary Italian sculptures, as well as Greek temples, intricate obelisks, and original works such as the reduced Trajan's Column. Many of its tombs belong to prominent industrialist families, designed by artists like Giò Ponti, Arturo Martini, Dante Parini, Lucio Fontana, Medardo Rosso, Giacomo Manzù, Floriano Bodini, and Giò Pomodoro.
