Information about the deceased is very much unknown. The object he leans on bears reliefs on every side. One depicts him dancing with his wife while another shows him in armor. The State Museum of City Sculptures was founded in 1932 to study, restore and protect city sculptures and gravestones, ensuring the upkeep of many famous St Petersburg sculptures. Branches are scattered throughout St Petersburg but main locations reside within the former territory of Aleksandro-Nevsky Lavra which was donated to the museum upon its inception. The Aleksandro-Nevsky Lavra's Tikhvinskoe Cemetery was established in 1823, named after Our Lady of Tikhvin Church built here between 1869 and 1873. The church closed in 1931 and in 1932 the cemetery became a branch of the State Museum of City Sculptures, known as the Necropolis of Masters of Culture. This branch is so named because many leading figures of Russian culture were laid to rest there including writers Fyodor Dostoevsky, Nikolai Karamzin, Ivan Krylov and composers Aleksandr Borodin, Mikhail Glinka, Modest Musorgsky, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
