Petr Mikhailovich Medvedev was born on January 15, 1837, in Moscow and passed away on January 30, 1906, in St. Petersburg. He was a Russian theatrical entrepreneur who made significant contributions to the development of theater arts. Medvedev studied at the Moscow Theatrical School where he gained valuable knowledge that would later help him become a successful theatrical entrepreneur. From 1853 onwards, Medvedev acted in various provincial theaters where he honed his skills and developed his passion for theater. He successfully managed several drama and opera theaters in Saratov (1862), Kazan (1866), and other cities. Medvedev played a vital role in popularizing classical Russian repertoire in the provinces while maintaining high production standards. He paid close attention to stage ensemble, which helped him produce outstanding performances. Medvedev's contributions to the Russian theater were immense as he discovered and trained talented actors who would go on to become famous in their own right. Some of the notable actors who worked under Medvedev's direction include P.A. Strepetova, M.G. Savina, V.N. Davydov, K.A. Varlamov, and M.I. Pisarev. From 1890 to 1893, Medvedev served as chief director at the Aleksandrinskii Theater in St. Petersburg where he also acted until his death. He appeared in several comedies including The Mayor in Gogol's The Inspector-General, Raspliuev in Sukhovo-Kobylina's Krechinskii's Wedding, and Scapin in Moliere's Scapin's Hanks. Medvedev wrote his memoirs which were published in 1929. His writings provided valuable insights into the world of theater during the late 19th century. The State Museum of City Sculptures was founded in 1932 with the primary goal of preserving and protecting city sculptures and gravestones. The museum is responsible for maintaining many of St Petersburg's most famous sculptures. The museum has several branches throughout St Petersburg, but its main offices are located within the former territory of the Aleksandro-Nevsky Lavra which was granted to the museum upon its founding.
