Claude Moseley was born on September 15, 1870, in Elgin, Cook County, Illinois. When he turned 12 years old in 1882, Claude joined his father, Charles Scott Moseley, and stepmother Julia Daniels Moseley at their homestead in Limona, Florida. Outside of a few trips north with his dad to attend school, Claude spent most of his teenage years learning farming and citrus cultivation in the Limona area, which is now Brandon, Florida. To recover from the economic downturn of 1893, the United States invested heavily in technology, manufacturing, and mining, while also expanding its international trade markets to break out of isolationism throughout the 1890s. When the Spanish-American War erupted in 1898, Claude served in the military, and upon his return to Limona, he thrived in the citrus industry. He had one daughter with his wife, Clara Burr Moseley from Connecticut. Both Claude and Clara passed away in 1948 and are buried at the historic cemetery in Limona near their family homestead.
