Grave stele

A poignant relief stands tall in the northeast corner of Piraeus' bustling harbor, situated in Haghios Ioannis Rentis. At its center, a youthful woman gazes intently at a delicate brooch or flower cradled in her left hand. Beside her, a young attendant pauses to lift a small jewellery box, their right hand reaching up to gently caress their cheek as they convey an air of sorrow. The stele's uppermost portion is adorned with a Siren, its features frozen in a gesture of mourning. Below this striking image, an inscription bears the name of the deceased: Eukoline, Demokles' beloved daughter.
