Grave stele
myminifactory
Discovered at the outskirts of ancient Thebes, this captivating scene presents two central figures: a bearded man grasping a staff with his right hand and a woman spinning with her left. In the background, three additional individuals -two men and one woman- stand watchful, while a tiny female attendant appears on the far left. A pomegranate and torch held by the standing bearded man in his left hand, along with an aryballos cradled in the right hand of a youthful figure without a beard, serve as characteristic attributes. The somber mood of this relief is accentuated by the rhythmic arrangement of these magnificent figures on two levels, suggesting the heroization of the deceased -a notion that aligns with the stele's Boeotian origins.
