The magnificent funerary stele was unearthed west of Athens, nestled in the vicinity of the Dipylon. A vibrant young woman reclines on a stool, leaning forward to enfold her youthful son in a tender gesture, as he rests at her knees, clutching a ball firmly in his right hand. In the background, a maiden stands serenely. The poignant epigram etched onto the epistyle reveals that this grave monument belonged to Polyxene, whose untimely demise left her bereft husband and heartbroken parents in anguish of grief.
