Grave stele

This grave stele was found at Tanagra. A young athlete is shown naked, with a chlamys thrown over his shoulder. In his left hand he holds a strigil and an aryballos, in his right hand an unidentified object. He is followed by his dog, who raises its head below the unknown attribute. The stele bears an ornate crown in relief, with a leafy central anthemion and sphinxes at the sides.  The epistyle preserves the name of the dead: Stephanos.
