The sculpture, discovered on the island of Aegina, depicts a standing youth gazing out with his head turned to one side, as he clutches a small bird tightly in his left hand. With his right arm extended, he gestures towards a cage suspended from above, its presence evoking a sense of longing. By his side stands a young attendant, overcome with sorrow, who leans against a pillar for support. Perched atop the pillar is a cat, positioned in a crouching stance. The horizontal moulding surrounding the stele features an intricate relief band adorned with palmettes and lotus flowers, showcasing the masterful craftsmanship of its creator. This artist's skill suggests they may have received training in the workshop of Agorakritos, renowned sculptor, and also played a role in crafting the Parthenon frieze, a testament to their exceptional talent.
