Grave stele

myminifactory

This ancient stele was unearthed in Piraeus, displaying a bearded figure seated on a chair, engaging two young children as he cradles a bird in each hand. The inscription naming Euempolos labels him as an inexpensive slave, likely one of the attendants recorded in a naval roster from late 5th century B.C., who were granted their liberty by the Athenians for participating in a pivotal battle against their longtime foes, the Spartans.
