myminifactory
Rhodes, Greece, acquired in 1943 from collector von Gaertringen's collection Marble, a relic from the 3rd/2nd century BC The relief, carved by sculptor Damatrios, was once part of Hieronymus of Tlos' tomb - a renowned philosopher from Rhodes who studied under Aristotle. In the left section of the frieze, the deceased is depicted as a philosopher in heated debate, while the right side showcases an extraordinary portrayal of the afterlife, a rare sight in Greek art history.
