José Seva Cabrera was a renowned musician from Alcoy who tragically passed away on the 30th of 1922 at the age of 57. Trained in Paris by esteemed masters Leo Delibes and Eduard Lalo, he went on to become the respected musical director of the orchestra "La Primitiva" while also earning a living as a dedicated teacher. He successfully managed a thriving musical instrument store on San Lorenzo Street in Alcoy. As an active member of the Union Republican Party, Seva Cabrera was elected city councillor in 1911. This funerary monument, crafted by accomplished sculptor Miguel Torregrosa (1886-1973), beautifully represents "The Melancholy". Interestingly, due to his non-practicing status regarding Catholicism, Seva Cabrera's mortal remains are laid to rest in the civil cemetery outside the San Antonio Abad Cemetery. However, it is worth noting that today there is no longer a distinction between cemeteries for believers and non-believers. Ernesto Valor Calatayud (1988) penned "Diccionario Alcoyano de Música y Músicos", published by Lloréns Libros in Alcoy. This entry first appeared in REVISTA FESTES ASJ, dated 1965.
