I engineered this device specifically for recovering quadcopters and multicopters from trees. To achieve smoother flight, you'll need to add weight to the system somehow. The V2 model features strategically placed holes on its front side, allowing M5 screws and nuts to be threaded in to increase its overall mass, making it easier to throw with more force.
