Grappling Hook

Grappling Hook

I needed a lightweight hook that I could easily take along kayaking, capable of snatching a drifting boat without hesitation. Additionally, I wanted something that could be used to lift outdoor furniture from the ground level up to a second-floor deck without having to carry it through the house, freeing me from unnecessary hassle. No doubt, there are numerous other uses for such a versatile tool. UPDATE Version 2 (19 Jul. 2017): In the original version, the tines on the hook proved brittle when printed in PLA. To address this issue, Version 2 substitutes these tines with reliable #6 screws. The hook attachment is specifically designed to fit a 1/4-20 eye bolt. One nut is countersunk into the bottom, while the other nut and a toothed washer are tightened from the top to ensure a rock-solid connection. Printed in PLA with 25% infill provides sufficient strength for my purposes, but I'm not planning on subjecting it to extreme conditions like concrete drops. Disclaimer: No testing has been conducted to establish a load limit, so please do your own testing before relying on this hook's reliability. Using this hook to climb buildings like in the original Batman TV series is strongly discouraged, but if you dare and manage to survive, I'd love to hear about it.
