Locality: Romania Size: 12 cm x 10 cm x 8 cm Type: Igneous rock formed deep within the Earth's crust, resulting in a coarse-grained texture. Description: This rock is composed of visible minerals, including quartz and both potassic feldspar and sodic-plagioclase, with the latter present in greater quantities than the former. It falls intermediate in composition between quartz diorite and quartz monzonite, containing quartz, plagioclase (oligoclase or andesine, often zoned), and potassic feldspar (orthoclase, microcline, various perthites) along with biotite, hornblende, and occasionally pyroxene. Essential minerals: Quartz, plagioclase, potassic feldspar (orthoclase, microcline), biotite, and hornblende are the key minerals present in this rock. Accessory minerals: Magnetite, ilmenite, apatite, titanite, zircon, and others can be found accompanying these essential minerals.
