Description: Granites are extremely common types of rocks that form when magma cools slowly below the Earth's surface. They appear light in color and are primarily composed of Quartz and Alkali-feldspar, with small amounts of plagioclase present. These rocks may also contain mafic minerals such as ferromagnesian minerals and accessory minerals. Essential minerals found in Granites include quartz, potassic feldspar (orthoclase, microcline), ± plagioclase, and biotite.
