Marche-à-terre, 19th century Handcrafted fabrication Wood, metal Outer diameter 180.20 cm Collection: POP Museum, 1983.11190 Purchased by Robert-Lionel Séguin in 1963, this uncommon mechanical device with gears and a conical shape served as the starting point for an original grain-grinding process. It is a highly specialized production, very rare in Quebec, replicating similar models used in England and the United States in the mid-18th century. The system was powered by animals serving as motive force. This main piece has inspired the museum architect who designed a rotunda in the grand hall to showcase it.
