Alexander Burganov, born 1935, is a renowned Russian sculptor who has earned the prestigious title of National Artist of Russia and is an esteemed member of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts. His artistic style predominantly features abstract representations that often incorporate fragments of human or animal bodies, with horses being a notable exception. The pieces serve as a canvas for crafting larger-than-life narratives. This particular sculpture brings to life a Slavic fairytale centered around a gigantic turnip planted by Grandfather. As the turnip's growth spirals out of control, it becomes clear that its massive size has made it impossible for Grandfather to remove from the ground on his own. In a poignant display of family unity and cooperation, Grandfather enlists the help of grandmother, their granddaughter, dog, cat, and mouse, ultimately relying on the strength and determination of the little mice to successfully extricate the vegetable from the earth.
