The Grand Central Terminal is a major transportation hub located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. The terminal serves as the main station for Metro-North Railroad and Amtrak's intercity trains, with over 750,000 people passing through its doors daily. Opened on February 2, 1913, Grand Central was designed by architects Reed and Stem and Warren and Wetmore in the Beaux-Arts style. The terminal features a stunning main concourse, a grand waiting room for commuters, and a spacious observation deck offering panoramic views of the city. One of Grand Central's most famous features is its Whispering Gallery, located on the eastern side of the main concourse. The gallery is a vaulted space with a high ceiling, where visitors can stand on either side of the archway and whisper to someone standing opposite them, who will hear their voice clearly despite being several feet away. This unique acoustic phenomenon occurs due to the shape of the gallery, which allows sound waves to bounce off the walls and travel in a straight line to the listener's ears. Visitors can experience this fascinating effect firsthand by standing on either side of the Whispering Gallery and whispering to someone else.
