The Nymans Estate is situated just south-east of Handcross, West Sussex. This estate comprises gardens, parkland, ancient woodland, and farmland. The garden holds significant national importance, listed as Grade II*. For more information about the estate, visit https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/nymans. Within the Nymans' wider landscape, ancient woods contain sandstone cliffs that have served as a canvas for graffiti for over 300 years. This remarkable historical record showcases the lives of those who resided in and around the area. One rock face, accessible only through a narrow walkway, boasts hundreds of carvings covering several square meters. Due to its challenging photography, this model was created to illustrate the variety of marks left by previous visitors. To experience the unique setting of the rock graffiti, view this video: https://vimeo.com/363284278. We invite assistance in transcribing the graffiti and uncovering the stories of these individuals, ultimately revealing their connections to Nymans' history.
