Grab Bars for your Kindle Fire tablet. Finally, with this large tablet case, you can hold onto your tablet. You can hold it with your left hand or right hand or both hands. You can hold it portrait mode or landscape mode.If you have had trouble holding onto your tablet, this case with grab bars is your answer. The tablet will not slip out of your fingers. You will not accidentally touch the screen.Yes, it's large, but what good is a tablet, if you can't hold it?This model is for the Kindle Fire HD 8 tablet (10th Generation) (2020).If you have a Kindle Fire HD 8 tablet (8th Generation) (2018) use this model:https://www.printables.com/model/188699-grab-bars-for-kindle-fire-hd-8-tablet-8th-generatiIf you have a Kindle Fire HD 10 tablet (11th Generation) (2021) use this model: https://www.printables.com/model/188696-grab-bars-for-the-kindle-fire-hd-10-tablet-11th-geTo put your tablet in the case, first insert the end of the tablet with the buttons, then work down both sides towards the other end. As you press edges of the tablet, the side walls of the PLA case will expand. Once you get to the end without the buttons, first force one corner of the tablet into the case, then quickly force the remaining corner into the case. During this moment the tablet will flex in an alarming manner, but that flexing doesn't seem to hurt the tablet. Once the tablet is inserted, it is held firmly and will not rattle in the case.If you want to remove the tablet from the case, push from the back side. Start with the end without buttons. Push out one corner, then push out the adjacent corner. With the end free, the tablet will easily come out the rest of the way. This model includes a conical hole that matches the viewing angle of the rear camera. The view should be clear. However, sometimes I notice that one corner of the image is ever so slightly blocked by the plastic case. I've found that this can be corrected by shifting the tablet in the case a fraction of a mm to a spot where the case does not block a corner of the image.Print SettingsPrinter Brand:PrusaPrinter: I3 MK3SRafts:NoSupports: NoResolution:0.3Infill: 20%Filament: any PLA any Notes: I've found that it's helpful to add supports under the inside corner of the case. These four spots are right above each corner of the tablet. With PrusaSlicer, I paint on supports. Without the supports in this spot, the filament tends to pull away from the previous layer. However, if you don't use supports and the filament does pull away, the case is still good. The case is not lost, just remove the filament that didn't stick to the previous layer. It's best to print with a 0.3 mm layer height because it's much better at printing overhangs than with 0.2 layer height.Post-PrintingIf you have a large print bed, then you can print the grab bars and case as one single object, but if your print bed isn't big enough, then you must print as 2 separate halves, or 4 separate quarters, and then glue them together with super glue. The model has alignment holes in each matching face. Use short pieces (about 6mm) of 1.75mm filament as alignment pins. Do a dry fit prior to applying the super glue. I've found that it works well to lightly sand the matching faces with a flat piece of sandpaper laying on a flat countertop. When gluing, hold the model down on a flat surface.Once the glue has set, insert your tablet into the case. How I Designed ThisThe OpenSCAD source file is included.
