Preliminary design for testing purposes and GPS optimization. This mount will undergo changes to align with ground plane and reduced height requirements. Frontal GPS mount designed specifically for the Matek M8Q-5883 module on the MicroLongRange frame. By placing the GPS in this location, noise and magnetic interference are minimized, ensuring optimal performance. Additionally, propeller disturbance is eliminated compared to rear placement, which can disrupt thrust. This design serves as a testing ground for achieving high-quality GPS reception (hdop < 1.0). Previous attempts at rear-mounted designs only yielded a maximum of 1.8 hdop and 7 satellites. Current VTX and RF equipment contributes significantly to noise levels, hindering reliable GPS accuracy and magnetic COG. The battery placement should be adjusted to center the COG forward slightly. Weight remains comparable to an extended tail mount, approximately two grams.
