GPi Case D-Pad

GPi Case D-Pad

I recently purchased a GPi Case and put it through its paces, only to discover that the D-PAD lacked precision, to say the least. It was binding in a way that made pressing UP result in simultaneous LEFT and RIGHT movements, or worse still, staying stuck on UP even without applying pressure. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening, but some users have suggested swapping out the D-PAD from an old Gameboy Portable, which has a slightly larger design. The original D-PAD does seem to be loose and wobbly, after all. Designing a replacement in Fusion360 was a relatively quick task, taking only a few minutes to complete. Printing it took around 30 minutes, using a 0.2mm nozzle and 0.1mm layer height to achieve maximum detail. I highly recommend following the same setup, as a 0.4mm nozzle simply won't produce the desired result. The little-known underside of the button is facing down during printing, with a considerable amount of support in place. However, it's worth noting that this section will never be visible anyway. With the new D-PAD in place, precision has increased dramatically, bringing back fond memories of playing on the original Gameboy.
