A stunning celadon ceramicware excavated from a tomb along China's southeastern coast showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of the Yue kiln, dating back to the Eastern Han to Three Kingdoms period, which spanned the 1st-3rd century CE. On display at Zhejiang Provincial Museum's Gushan Branch is this remarkable piece, featuring four smaller "tubes" or jars that encircle a main jar shaped like a gourd. Intricately decorated with hybrid creatures resembling half-human, half-mouse figures, a turtle, and birds, this exquisite ceramicware is a testament to the artistic skill of ancient Chinese artisans.
